Social Media MADNESS

Today was great...I wrote BUNCHES of copy! I wrote copy for social media aka Facebook application that allows you to invite friends and manage an ENTIRE fundraiser online. The idea is pretty neat, I actually plan to use it when it's finished.  I also am in the middle of brainstorming for a few companies' smartphone applications. I never imagined this much copy went into online stuff, but hey what's an internship for anyway but to learn how the real world works! I am really enjoying working in Dallas, but I just come home and I am exhausted and all I want to do is sleep. Now I can see why my dad just wants to sit and watch tv and just soak everything in once he gets home.

I really want to decorate my workspace and make it my own. I'm planning on going shopping this weekend and buying a few things (desk lamp, pillow...that's about it) to spice up my corner. I will make sure to buys things that can be used in my apartment for next year.

I had lunch with the art directory today. We had to get out of the office and sat on the grass and had a fun picnic. I really enjoy having a job where there are expectations of me, but they also know I am learning and are willing to give me tasks to test my skills.

I found out that the wallets I ordered for Ashley, Ryan's sister, came in yesterday. I designed wallets for her graduation announcements. She looked beautiful and I was able to add a swirly graphic to the top.

I plan to take before and after pictures of my little corner and hopefully some glimpses of where I work.

I NEED to stop writing and take a break because I will be writing again at 8:30am tomorrow.

Lovee,
Mal

DAY TWO

Today I woke up at 6:45am...geez that was early for me. I left the house at 7:50 and made it to work around 8:20. The drive was hectic in the Dallas traffic.

I have a desk and my own computer in the agency. It is off in a little corner and I think it is perfect for me to concentrate and focus on my copywriting. I was given my tasks for the summer and will work under the Numantra's creative director and copywriter. They are going to teach me tons of wonderful skills and I feel they are really focused on making sure I have a great experience and learn lots.

I went to lunch with a few people in the creative department. We went to Corner Bakery, my favorite place to eat in Dallas. We brainstormed for a campaign Numantra is currently working on and I really enjoyed it.

While at work everyone likes to communicate quickly so we use aim. I enjoyed the challenge of creating a fun name and of course one that would let the employees know it was me. So I thought of the perfect name...mallorytheintern. PERFECT. Right to the point and everyone would know it was me. I got a few laughs too.

There is suppose to be a art director intern coming next week and I'm anxious to see who it is because we are going to be working on a lot of projects together.

Until next time,
Mal

DALLAS HERE I COME!

Day ONE in Dallas

Well I made the strenuous 4 hour drive from Cypress to Dallas this afternoon. I had 4 diet cokes plus half of a caffeine pill during the car ride...(it was quite an uncomfortable ride)

I landed a sweet internship at an advertising agency in the Dallas area for this summer. The agency is called Numantra and if you want to check out their website here is the link:

Numantra

I jammed out to some soothing John Mayer, Omarion, and a little bit of Miley Cyrus' new song, "Can't Be Tamed." I hate to admit it, but I actually like that song. Let me just state for the record that it is the only song of Miley's that I like.

Once I arrived in at my WONDERFUL Aunt Lori's I unpacked my car and settled right in. I picked out my outfit for the first day, and my attire is a great balance between professional and comfortable. (super important)

Here are my goals for the summer...because of course these are very important:

  1. LOVE my internship and gain priceless experience
  2. Expand my advertising and photography portfolio
  3. Complete a scrapbook of this past year
  4. Read a book
  5. Write on this blog ALMOST everyday
  6. Go to six flags
  7. Spend time with my Dallas friends
  8. Go to 24 hour fitness at least 3 times a week...preferably dance to some ZUMBAAA
  9. Become a morning person as a result of waking up early for my internship
  10. Complete an online history course
  11. Have a great time I have with my family in Dallas
  12. Complete as many crafts as possible

I can't believe I am already in Dallas and head off to work in 7 hours.  My week-and-a-half flew by at home. I also can't believe I just finished my sophomore year in college and my lazy days of summer are over. However, the upside is I love advertising and I know a career in advertising will let my creative juices flow!!!

Get ready for some interesting posts :)
